Watch-outs With Caterpillar

Typically a premium purchase price, so it pays off mostly where the set runs long hours or downtime is very costly
Parts and service are best done through the authorised dealer, which can limit independent workshop options

Watch-outs With FG Wilson

New sets are priced at a premium over many alternatives, so compare like-for-like specifications
Because the brand is trusted, counterfeit and re-badged units exist: verify the data plate and buy from an authorised source

Who Each Suits Best

FG Wilson suits buyers who want a recognised set brand with a complete factory-built package and good resale value
Caterpillar suits large industrial, oil and gas and mining sites where long running hours and dealer-backed support justify a premium

How to Compare Quotes Fairly

Ask for the engine make and model, and the alternator make and model, in writing
Check the duty rating: prime, standby or continuous
Compare canopy specification and control panel type, not only the headline kVA
Compare warranty length, what it covers and who honours it in your state
Ask for the current delivery time and what happens if the date is missed

Where FG Wilson Is Strong

A well-known brand with a long history of use across Nigerian businesses and institutions
Complete sets designed and tested as a package, with engine, alternator and canopy matched by the maker
Strong resale recognition, which helps when you later sell a used set

Where Caterpillar Is Strong

Strong in large, continuous-duty power where reliability and dealer support matter most
Complete factory-built sets with engine, alternator and controls designed as one package
Support through an authorised dealer network

Parts and Service

FG Wilson: Quote the set model and serial number from the generator plate, then ask for the engine and alternator plates too, because engine parts may be sourced under the engine brand
Caterpillar: Cat parts are looked up by serial number prefix and engine arrangement, usually through the authorised dealer

What Each Brand Is

FG Wilson: a generator-set brand, owned by Caterpillar, that builds sets around Perkins and Caterpillar engines
Caterpillar: an engine and generator-set maker from the United States
