What to Check Before You Pay

Frequency (50Hz or 60Hz), voltage and phase on the rating plate, not only in the advert
Engine hours, service history and whether the set was prime or standby duty
A load-bank test at 75% load or more, with the readings recorded
Alternator insulation test, coolant and oil condition, and turbocharger condition
Gas train, regulator and ignition system condition, and the gas specification the set was rated on
Control panel type, whether an ATS is included, and what the warranty covers

Buying a Cat 1500kVA Gas Set in Onne

Onne buyers are mostly oil & gas, free trade zone logistics, marine support operators and contractors that cannot rely on grid supply alone.
Sets normally clear through the nearest port and are trucked to site in Onne. Ask whether delivery includes offloading, because crane access varies by yard.
Confirm weight, footprint and lifting points on the data sheet, and plan a concrete plinth and crane or skid positioning at site

50Hz or 60Hz in Onne

Nigeria's grid runs at 50Hz, so a set that backs up the grid or runs beside it has to be 50Hz
Some marine and offshore-support equipment around Onne is built to 60Hz. Confirm the frequency of the equipment you are powering before you choose.
A 60Hz set runs its engine at a higher speed (typically 1,800 rpm against 1,500 rpm at 50Hz) and is usually rated higher on the same engine, often by roughly 15 to 20 percent, so compare kVA ratings at the same frequency
A 60Hz set cannot feed a 50Hz network. Motors run fast and transformers can overheat unless a frequency converter is used

1500kVA Cat Gas Generator at a Glance (50Hz)

Real power at 0.8 power factor: about 1200 kW
Full-load current at 415 V three-phase: about 2087 A
Gas use depends on engine efficiency and load, so ask for the manufacturer's gas consumption curve for the exact model
Cat gas sets in this band are built on Cat G3500-series gas engines. Confirm the exact model and build year on the supplier's data sheet

Gas or Diesel?

A gas set needs a reliable supply: pipeline gas, compressed natural gas (CNG) or LNG. Confirm availability, pressure and price per unit at site before you choose gas over diesel
Gas quality matters. Methane content and calorific value change the output, so ask the supplier for the rating on your gas, not only the nameplate
Where gas is dependable, fuel can cost less per kWh than diesel, but the set and the gas train usually cost more up front and take longer to supply
Diesel stays simpler where there is no gas supply, and many sites run diesel as backup to gas

Onshore and Offshore Use

Onshore: factories, estates, hospitals, malls, flow stations and processing plants, usually on 50Hz grid backup or prime power
Offshore and marine support: platform and vessel installations normally need a set built and certified to the platform's or vessel's class rules, and often 60Hz, so a standard onshore set is generally not enough
Tell us whether the set goes onshore or offshore when you ask, because it changes the frequency, enclosure and certification you need

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a 1500kVA Cat gas generator cost in Onne?

We do not publish a fixed price, because it moves with frequency, new or used condition, engine hours, canopy, control panel, delivery to Onne and the exchange rate. Send your requirement on WhatsApp and we will get comparable quotes.

Is a Cat 1500kVA generator 50Hz or 60Hz?

Cat builds this size for both frequencies, and the rating differs between them. Nigeria's grid is 50Hz, so choose 50Hz for grid backup and choose 60Hz only when the equipment it powers is built for 60Hz.

Is a gas generator cheaper to run than diesel?

It can be, where gas is dependable and priced well, but it depends on the gas price, supply and the set's efficiency. A gas set also needs a gas supply and usually costs more up front. We do not quote prices, so ask your supplier for fuel use on your gas.

Can a 60Hz generator power Nigerian grid loads?

Not directly. A 60Hz set produces 60Hz output, so 50Hz motors run about 20 percent fast and transformers and sensitive electronics can be damaged. Use a frequency converter or choose a 50Hz set.

Can this generator be used offshore?

Offshore and marine installations normally need a set built and certified to the platform's or vessel's class rules, so a standard onshore set is generally not enough. Tell us the requirement and we will ask suppliers what they can certify.
